How To Measure For Your SpringSaver
Measuring Garage Door Springs
Why Measure?
Knowing the circumference and length of your garage door springs is essential for purchasing the correct SpringSaver. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to measure them safely.
Tools Needed:
- Measuring tape
- Ladder
Safety First:
- Ensure the garage door is in the down position and disconnected from the door opener or power before starting.
Measuring the Circumference:
- Locate the Torsion Spring: These are typically located above the garage door, mounted on a metal shaft.
- Measure the Circumference: Wrap a measuring tape around one of the coils to measure the circumference.
Measuring the Length:
- Measure the Total Length: Measure the length of the spring from one end to the other. Exclude the end cones.
- Record Measurements: Write down both the circumference and the total length for reference.
Verify Surrounding Clearance:
- An Inch Of Clearance: Is required between your springs and the wall above your garage door. The SpringSaver wrap needs to be able to rotate freely around the spring to prevent binding. If you have less clearance, please Contact Us for recommendations before ordering your kit.
Important Notes:
- If Your Spring Is Wavy: Some springs may be wavy from one end to the other. If your spring is wavy, please measure the depth of one of a wave, multiply it by 2 and add it to your previously measured circumference.
- Professional Assistance: Never attempt to adjust or remove torsion springs yourself, as they are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury. Consult a professional for any spring-related adjustments or repairs.
By following these steps, you'll have the necessary measurements for purchasing your SpringSaver kit.
